Celebrations

Back in 1905, the company raised money in much the same manner as today and started off with plans for a July 4th dinner and celebration which was held on the Baptist Church grounds.  One of the communities appointed for this affair was a group to contact the merchants and ask them to close their stores that day.  However, the celebration was postponed until August 9th because fire companies from surrounding communities could not participate on Independence Day and an important part of the celebration was a parade and drills in competition with other communities.  The fire company's celebration became a successful annual event.  The celebration is now part of Laceyville Community Day, which is held every year in July. The celebration is now held right on main street which is closed for the entire day.  A great place to bring the kids.  Following the day is the "firemens parade" now named the "Colegrove Memorial Parade". Many fire companies come from several communites to participate in the parade.  And the fire company also serves their famous Chicken B.B.Q. dinners downstairs in the hall. Lots of fun, food, and games.  Hope to see you there!
