A
former Main Street storefront in Laceyville is being renovated by the
Good Will Fire Company to serve as a social room with a seating capacity
for 150 to 200 people.
There are some
extensive renovations underway by Laceyville’s Good Will Fire Company
that when completed will transform a former Main Street storefront into
a social room that will be available for wedding receptions, community
dinners and other events.
Fire Chief Scott Fisher said the ongoing work involves adding a new
roof, new siding, new doors and windows to the building, which is
adjacent to the fire hall. Inside, a new tile floor and new lighting
have been added. Eventually a new kitchen will be part of the facility.
The company’s existing social room is in the basement of the fire hall.
It offers seating for about 80 people. The new facility will more than
double that, providing space for between 150 and 200 people, depending
on the event. Once the new facility opens, Fisher said dinners will no
longer be served in the old social room, however, it will be available
for meetings and small gatherings.
Downstairs, Fisher said the company plans to set up a lounge area for
firefighters called into standby service by other area fire companies.
The lounge will include couches and chairs, coffee maker, TV and other
items. The downstairs area will also include offices, garage space and a
workout area.
Fisher said the large single pane plate glass windows at the front of
the building will be replaced with smaller thermal pane windows that
will improve the aesthetics of the building, as well as making it more
energy efficient.
The new social room will be ready for use by the end of July, Fisher
said, however, the new kitchen isn’t expected to be put in service until
later this year. In the meantime, the existing kitchen will be kept
functional.
