Laceyville Man Killed in Crash - 1/9/2009

A Laceyville man was killed in a one-car crash Friday evening while he was driving along North Flat in Windham Township, lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree.

State Police at Tunkhannock said Donald Wildrick, 42 of Main Street Laceyville was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash along SR 3001 by the Wyoming County Corner.

A passenger in the 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier, Luis Gomez, suffered severe injuries and was life flighted from the crash scene to the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

Police said Wildrick lost control of his vehicle for unknown reasons at about 9:31 p.m. and was thrown from the car after striking the tree. He was not wearing a seatbelt, police said, however, Gomez was.

Laceyville fire and ambulance personnel responded to the scene. State police are continuing their investigation.

Donald was born in Towanda, PA. on March 2, 1966, the son of Myron and Martha Jane Rought Wildrick, of Stevensville, PA. Growing up in the Stevensville and LeRaysville area, Donald was a graduate of the Northeast Bradford High School, class of 1984.

For the last few years, Donald was employed by Bill Johnson Quarry’s, in the Stevensville area.

In his spare time, Donald enjoyed fishing, and loved to be surrounded and spending time with his family and friends.

Besides his parents, he is survived by a son Donald Dean Wildrick, Jr. of Texas, his brother and sister in law, David and Tammy Wildrick, of Stevensville, and a sister and brother in law, Barbara and Dennie Franklin, of Stevensville, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Donald is also survived by his girlfriend with whom he lived with, Melinda Jones, of Laceyville, PA.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday evening, Jan. 13, a 8 p.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, PA. with Rev. Charles Bishop of the Transue Community Church officiating. Interment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family in the Terrytown Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.
