Fire Destroys Jenningsville Area Home - by David Keeler - 5/8/2008

A home owned by Chuck Goodwin located on Farr Hollow Road in Wyoming County, about a mile from the Windham Township village of Jenningsville, was destroyed by flames Monday afternoon.

Firefighters from the FWM Fire Company were the first on the scene about 3:30 p.m. and quickly called for mutual aid from other companies, including Laceyville and Wilmot Township.

Fred Askew, who lives about five miles from the fire scene, said the home was fully involved in flames when he arrived on the scene about 10 minutes after he heard the alarm on a scanner in his home.

Askew said the upper level of the home had already collapsed by the time he arrived. He said the home was unoccupied and that he believed Goodwin was living elsewhere. The home was recently constructed and was for sale.

Firefighters ferried water in tankers from Hockey Pond on Goodwin's father's farm a short distance away.

Nothing was saved from the home. A brush fire that was sparked by the blaze was extinguished before it caused significant damage.

There was no information available from FWM company officials about how the fire may have started.
